A recent study evaluated "AI-Lab," a structured intervention designed to improve undergraduate students' understanding and use of generative AI in computer science courses. The intervention, which included pre-lab orientation, in-class critique of AI outputs, and homework reflections, was implemented across three CS courses and one engineering course. Results indicated that students reported increased openness to using GenAI for conceptual questions and homework, and greater comfort with its application in conceptual, debugging, and homework tasks. While overall self-reported homework and project use remained stable, debugging use increased, and students described more iterative prompting strategies and a more skeptical approach to AI-generated content. AI
IMPACT This study suggests that structured interventions can effectively improve students' critical engagement with generative AI tools in academic settings.
