KPMG retracts AI report over fabricated case studies and hallucinations

KPMG has retracted a report on AI adoption after it was found to contain fabricated case studies and inaccurate citations. The report, titled "Total Experience: Redefining Excellence in the Age of Agentic AI," included examples of non-existent AI capabilities and misattributed information from real sources. GPTZero, a maker of AI content detection tools, identified the inaccuracies, which were also verified by the Financial Times. KPMG has since pulled the report and is investigating the circumstances of its publication, acknowledging the seriousness of the integrity issues.
