LearnPrunerV2 advances vision-language model efficiency with learnable token pruning

Researchers have developed LearnPrunerV2, a novel method for progressively pruning tokens in vision-language models (VLMs) to reduce computational overhead. This new approach integrates learnable modules into each layer of the VLM to assess token importance by combining visual saliency with query relevance. LearnPrunerV2 also introduces a Budget-Deterministic Pruning strategy for a hardware-friendly, fixed budget per layer. Experiments show that LearnPrunerV2 significantly outperforms existing methods, achieving 99.8% of original performance while pruning 77.8% of visual tokens on LLaVA-v1.5. AI

IMPACT Enhances efficiency of vision-language models by enabling significant token reduction without substantial performance loss.

LearnPrunerV2: Learnable Progressive Token Pruning for Vision-Language Models

arXiv:2610.36986v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated remarkable multimodal capabilities but suffer from prohibitive computational overhead due to the massive number of visual tokens. While token pruning is a promising solution, existin…
