RouteDRAG framework optimizes agentic RAG for multimodal documents

Researchers have developed RouteDRAG, a new framework designed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of agentic retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) for multimodal documents. RouteDRAG aims to control when agents are invoked and how they execute by analyzing the query-dependent benefits of agentic execution. The framework includes components for document indexing, adaptive path routing, dynamic agent execution, and sequential policy learning. Experiments show RouteDRAG improves accuracy by an average of 3.47 percentage points over shorter-path execution while using agents less frequently. AI

IMPACT Improves efficiency and accuracy of AI systems processing complex multimodal documents.

RouteDRAG: Learning to Route and Control Agentic Execution for Multimodal Document RAG

arXiv:2610.36444v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Web-based applications increasingly rely on understanding long multimodal documents, where answering questions often requires combining information across pages, tables, and figures. Agentic retrieval-augmented generation addresses …
