Omni-LLMs optimize inference costs with per-query modality selection

Researchers have developed a method for optimizing inference costs in omni-modal large language models (Omni-LLMs) by adaptively selecting which modalities to use for each query. This approach, formulated as an accuracy-cost optimization problem, was evaluated on the WorldSense dataset using Qwen2.5-Omni and Qwen3-Omni models. The results showed that query-wise modality selection significantly improved the accuracy-cost trade-off, achieving comparable or better accuracy than providing all modalities while substantially reducing input tokens, latency, and monetary cost. AI

IMPACT This approach could lead to more efficient deployment and usage of multimodal LLMs, reducing computational costs and latency.

Efficient Omni-modal Large Language Model Inference via Per-Query Modality Selection

arXiv:2610.31768v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Omni-modal large language models (Omni-LLMs) can jointly process a broad range of modalities, such as text, audio, and video, enabling stronger multimodal understanding and reasoning capabilities, but often at substantial inference …
