New ComFair benchmark audits intersectional fairness in LLMs

Researchers have introduced ComFair, a new benchmark designed to evaluate the intersectional fairness of large language models (LLMs). Unlike existing benchmarks that audit single sensitive attributes, ComFair generates over 479,000 dual- and multi-attribute instances to uncover harms that arise from the interaction of multiple attributes. Experiments on ten LLMs reveal that task type significantly impacts fairness, with discriminative tasks exposing shifts in performance and bias scores, and generative tasks showing larger, directionally asymmetric changes. This configurable benchmark aims to provide a more robust assessment of LLM fairness beyond single-attribute settings. AI

IMPACT Provides a more comprehensive method for assessing LLM fairness, potentially leading to more equitable AI systems.

Beyond Single-Attribute Auditing: A Configurable Multi-Attribute Benchmark for Intersectional Fairness in LLMs

arXiv:2610.35069v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly evaluated for fairness, yet most existing benchmarks audit one sensitive attribute at a time. This single-attribute paradigm can miss intersectional harms, where multiple attributes inte…
