New agentic system generates rare disease reports from clinical notes

Researchers have developed MedCaseAgent, an agentic reasoning system designed to generate detailed, evidence-based case reports for rare diseases from unstructured clinical notes. The system integrates patient data mining with iterative, tool-assisted reasoning, dynamically querying medical literature to ensure clinical fidelity and assess novelty. To support this work, the team has released MedCase-150K, a large multimodal clinical case-report corpus, and MedCase-Bench, an evaluation suite, alongside an open-source model post-trained from Qwen3.5-9B. MedCaseAgent has demonstrated superior performance compared to existing medical LLMs and agents in both LLM-judged and rule-based evaluations. AI

IMPACT This system could improve the generation of clinical case reports, potentially aiding medical research and diagnosis for rare diseases.
