HPE to run first supercomputer benchmarks on the Moon in 2026
ByPulseAugur Editorial·[37 sources]·
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is preparing to conduct the first supercomputer benchmarks on the Moon, utilizing its fanless Spaceborne Computer-4 system. This system will be transported via an Astrolab FLIP rover to the lunar south pole by late 2026, as part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative. The benchmarks will include High Performance Conjugate Gradients (HPCG) and High Performance LINPACK (HPL), alongside AI testing for large language models, vision inference, and LiDAR processing. NASA will also test its Federated Learning for Unbounded and Intelligent Decentralization (FLUID) AI neural network, coordinating three models trained on Earth, ISS, and lunar data.
