New agent BRIA improves LLM tool selection by isolating investigations

Researchers have developed BRIA (BRanch-Inspect-Adopt), an agent designed to improve how large language models select and use tools from extensive libraries. BRIA isolates the investigation of multiple potential tools into separate branches, allowing each to execute independently. A task agent then inspects the results from these branches and integrates only the useful outcomes into its main reasoning process. This method prevents failed attempts from negatively impacting subsequent steps and ensures that new capabilities are retrieved as needed. Evaluations on PlanBench-XL and MCP-Atlas, using a library of nearly 2,000 tools, showed BRIA matching or surpassing existing retrieval baselines, achieving a significant improvement in claim score on MCP-Atlas. Explore Separately, Adopt Selectively: Execution-Guided Tool Use over Large Tool Libraries

arXiv:2610.22688v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Large language model agents must discover relevant tools from large libraries, e.g., thousands of tools, as new needs arise during task execution. When several candidates could satisfy the same need, execution may be required to i…
