New BiShield-TEE framework addresses LLM on-device security flaws

Researchers have identified a vulnerability in on-device large language model (LLM) deployment methods that rely on unilateral weight obfuscation. This vulnerability, termed the Solution Determinacy Property (SDP), allows attackers to uniquely determine the obfuscation secret, compromising model security. To address this, a new framework called BiShield-TEE has been proposed, which employs bilateral obfuscation of both input and output dimensions to create ambiguous solutions, thereby hiding the true key among multiple valid candidates. Experiments demonstrate that BiShield-TEE effectively limits attack accuracy to baseline levels while improving inference efficiency. AI

IMPACT Enhances security for on-device LLM deployments, potentially enabling wider adoption by addressing intellectual property and reverse engineering concerns.
