A new benchmark, LLMRec, has been developed to evaluate the performance of large language models (LLMs) on recommendation tasks. The benchmark tested several LLMs, including ChatGPT, LLaMA, and ChatGLM, across five different recommendation scenarios: rating prediction, sequential recommendation, direct recommendation, explanation generation, and review summarization. While LLMs showed moderate accuracy in predictive tasks, they performed comparably to existing methods in generating explanations. Qualitative evaluations indicated that LLMs can effectively process information to produce clear and logical outputs, suggesting potential for enhancing recommendation systems. AI
IMPACT This benchmark could guide future research into applying LLMs to recommendation systems, potentially improving user experience and personalization.
