New benchmark SolBehave tests LLM-generated smart contract correctness

Researchers have introduced SolBehave, a new benchmark designed to evaluate the behavioral correctness of smart contracts generated by large language models. Current evaluations primarily focus on whether the code compiles, which is insufficient given that deployed smart contracts on platforms like Ethereum cannot be patched. SolBehave employs three methods: differential fuzzing, historical transaction replay, and a novel DCR-graph-guided synthetic transaction replay to test the functional equivalence and intended usage of generated contracts. The study found that while compilation rates varied significantly among seven evaluated open-weight models, only a small fraction of compiled contracts were functionally equivalent to their originals, with Gemma-4-31B showing the best performance. IMPACT Establishes a new standard for evaluating LLM-generated smart contracts, highlighting the gap between compilation and true behavioral correctness.

SolBehave: Evaluating the Behavioural Correctness of LLM-Generated Smart Contracts

arXiv:2610.18745v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Large language models increasingly generate Solidity smart contracts that, once deployed, can never be patched, making a single latent fault permanent and exploitable. Yet current evaluations mostly ask only whether generated code…
