Google Pixel phones to receive up to seven years of software updates

By PulseAugur Editorial · [3 sources] ·

Google has committed to providing seven years of software updates for its Pixel 8 and subsequent phone models, a significant increase from previous support timelines. Older models, such as the Pixel 6 and 7 series, will receive five years of updates. This extended support includes both major OS upgrades and security patches, aiming to improve device longevity and resale value, and surpasses the support offered by competitors like Samsung for many of their devices. AI

IMPACT Extended software support for consumer electronics may indirectly influence AI integration and usage over a device's lifespan.
