Redpine Science, a new platform providing AI models and agents access to peer-reviewed literature via an API and the Model Context Protocol, has been evaluated using a four-quadrant approach. The evaluations show that agents utilizing Redpine Science achieve higher accuracy on question-answering benchmarks compared to those relying on web search or no retrieval. Specifically, on the ScholarQABench SciFact benchmark, an agent with Redpine Science answered 94.4% of claims correctly, significantly outperforming an agent without retrieval (87.6%). Furthermore, Redpine Science demonstrated superior retrieval performance, placing the correct source paper in the top ten results for 83.1% of queries on a public benchmark, and achieving a Precision@5 of 75.2% compared to PubMed's 39.8% in expert-validated relevance assessments.
