AI tool MitPro boosts mitotic counting accuracy and speed for pathologists

A new AI tool called MitPro has been developed to assist pathologists in counting mitotic figures, a crucial step in tumor grading and diagnosis. In a study involving 13 pathologists and 385 whole-slide images across seven tumor types, MitPro significantly improved the consistency of mitotic counts, increasing the intraclass correlation coefficient from 0.589 to 0.949. The tool also dramatically reduced assessment time, cutting it from an average of 286.4 seconds to 127.8 seconds per assessment. These improvements were observed across different imaging systems and tumor types, suggesting MitPro's potential to enhance routine pathological assessment. AI

IMPACT Enhances diagnostic accuracy and efficiency in pathology, potentially leading to faster and more reliable cancer grading.

AI-assisted mitotic counting improves reproducibility and efficiency across multiple tumour types

arXiv:2610.01813v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Mitotic counting is an important component of tumour grading, diagnosis and prognostic assessment across several tumour types, but manual assessment is time-consuming and subject to inter-pathologist variability. To help address the…
