A new research paper argues that "Agent Experience" (AX) is now more critical for businesses than "Answer Engine Optimization" (AEO). The paper posits that as AI models evolve from relying solely on training data to actively searching the live web, the ability for an AI agent to access and comprehend a business's own website (AX) becomes paramount. The study analyzed over 37,000 agent journeys across 1,056 businesses and found that sites with good AX were recommended 1.9 times more often and had answers built from their own pages 78% of the time, compared to 56% for less accessible sites.
