New AI detector Defake-o3 provides verifiable evidence for image generation

Researchers have developed Defake-o3, a new AI-generated image (AIGI) detection system designed to provide verifiable evidence rather than speculative rationales. This system integrates interactive visual search with an Evidence Verifier trained on human annotations to favor grounded explanations and penalize baseless claims. To support this approach, the team created the GroundFake dataset, which includes localized evidence and human verification, and the FakeFrontier benchmark for evaluating evidence quality against recent image generators.
