AI-generated story wins Commonwealth Prize amid plagiarism row

By PulseAugur Editorial · [1 sources] ·

The Commonwealth Short Story Prize awarded its top prize to "The Serpent in the Grove" by Jamir Nazir, a story that faced accusations of being AI-generated shortly after winning a regional award. Critics pointed to stylistic elements commonly associated with AI writing, prompting an investigation by the Commonwealth Foundation. Despite the controversy and the withdrawal of a publishing partner, the foundation ultimately stood by Nazir, who explained his writing process involved extensive revisions using speech-to-text technology and was influenced by literary figures and personal experiences.
