AI app to detect drunk drivers through Cantonese speech analysis in the works
Researchers at Hong Kong Metropolitan University are developing an AI application designed to detect drunk driving by analyzing Cantonese speech patterns. The app will use a multimodal AI model trained on speech samples to identify changes in rate, intonation, and grammar caused by alcohol consumption. This project, funded by a HK$3.4 million grant, aims to provide a real-time self-assessment tool for drivers to determine their fitness to drive after drinking. AI
IMPACT This AI application could enhance road safety by providing a novel method for real-time assessment of driver intoxication.
