They Lost Their Friend To Cancer. How They Turned Grief Into Purpose.
Lauren Feffer and Tiara Lamont established Ovarian Cancer Awareness at UConn to honor their friend Maya Ortiz, who passed away from the disease. Ortiz had previously started a similar awareness group at UMass. The UConn chapter has gained support from faculty, the university president, and the wider community, who share their own stories of loss.
