Microsoft’s first advanced reasoning AI is here
Microsoft has unveiled seven new in-house AI models at its Build 2026 conference, marking a significant expansion of its AI development efforts. The flagship model, MAI-Thinking-1, is described as a medium-sized model that rivals leading models on software engineering benchmarks, trained independently without relying on third-party data. Other models introduced include those for image generation, faster transcription, enhanced voice capabilities across multiple languages, and an inference-efficient coding model integrated into GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code.
