AIDEN: Design and Pilot Study of an AI Assistant for the Visually Impaired
Researchers have developed AIDEN, an AI assistant designed to help visually impaired individuals with tasks like object identification, text reading, and navigation. Unlike audio-based assistants that can cause overload and privacy issues, AIDEN uses a multimodal approach combining object detection with a Large Language and Vision Assistant. It features a novel haptic guidance system for object centering, avoiding auditory channels and ensuring privacy by not storing personal data.
