PP-OCRv6: From 1.5M to 34.5M Parameters, Surpassing Billion-Scale VLMs on OCR Tasks
A new OCR system, PP-OCRv6, has been developed, offering multiple model tiers designed for various deployment scenarios from servers to edge devices. This system utilizes a unified MetaFormer-style building block and data-centric optimization to improve performance. PP-OCRv6 demonstrates superior accuracy and detection metrics compared to its predecessor, PP-OCRv5, and significantly outperforms larger Vision-Language Models like Qwen3 VL 235B, GPT-5.5, and Gemini 3.1 Pro, all while using substantially fewer parameters.
