Introducing Cross-Engine ABAC
Databricks has introduced a beta version of its Cross-Engine ABAC feature, allowing attribute-based access controls to be defined once in Unity Catalog and enforced across various external data engines. This new capability aims to simplify data governance by centralizing policy management at the catalog layer, preventing the need to duplicate security rules across different systems. The feature leverages open Iceberg REST Catalog APIs, enabling any compatible engine to delegate policy enforcement to Unity Catalog, thereby ensuring data access is controlled before it reaches the query engine.
