YouTube will try to automatically flag AI videos starting this month
YouTube is enhancing its approach to identifying and labeling AI-generated videos, moving beyond creator disclosures to implement automatic detection. Starting in May 2026, the platform will analyze videos for significant photorealistic AI use and apply labels even if creators do not disclose it. These labels will be more prominent, appearing below the video player for long-form content and as overlays on Shorts, with permanent labels for content created using YouTube's own AI tools or C2PA-certified metadata.
