A strongly annotated passive acoustic dataset for tropical bird monitoring
Researchers have developed PteroSet, a new dataset designed to improve machine learning models for monitoring tropical bird populations. This dataset features extensive time-frequency annotations for bird vocalizations, covering 168 species across 563 recordings from Colombia. PteroSet aims to serve as a benchmark for tropical soundscapes, addressing challenges like acoustic co-occurrence and domain shift, and includes a deep learning baseline to demonstrate its utility.
