Teamsters and DOJ move to end federal oversight of the union after 37 years
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the U.S. Department of Justice have jointly filed a motion to end the 37-year federal oversight of the union. This monitorship, established in 1989 to combat organized crime's influence, is nearing its conclusion following a determination by the independent monitor that the union has developed sufficient internal controls. Teamsters president Sean O'Brien stated that the union can now effectively police itself, with plans to retain an independent compliance professional after the monitor's role is eliminated. AI
