Empowering 9-1-1 Calltaking Training with Generative AI: Experiences and Lessons Learned
Researchers have developed and deployed a generative AI system to train emergency call-takers, addressing significant staffing shortages and training time constraints in public safety. The system, created in partnership with the Metro Nashville Department of Emergency Communications, was used by 190 operational users across over 1,100 training sessions. Analysis of nearly 100,000 user interactions revealed critical lessons regarding system delivery, rigor, resilience, and human factors in safety-critical public sector environments. AI
